April 21st

Next week, we will take the reading and math MAP tests the mornings of Monday-Thursday. Friday will be a makeup day for anyone that missed testing during the week. Please make sure to have your child to school on time. Any students arriving after testing begins will be held in the office until testing time is over and will make up missed test on Friday.

They have also been hard at work on memorizing multiplication facts. At the end of May, we have a multiplication sundae party to celebrate their progress!

Writing-  Be on the lookout in the upcoming weeks for opinion writing finals! I will send them home as soon as I grade all of them. Our last writing unit will focus on fairy tales and altered fairy tales. On May 24th, you are invited to come eat lunch with your student and drop by the classroom afterwards to see the altered fairy tales created by your child!

This week in Friday folders, I am sending home two important papers to be filled out and returned. The first is a lunch form for upcoming field trips so we can get a count to the cafeteria staff of who will be needing school lunches and who will be providing their own. The second sheet is a form to be filled out if you are interested in going on any of the upcoming field trips. I am trying to get a head count so that I know the group sizes we will be working with! Please return these by next Friday. Unfortunately, I will not be attending the cattle farm trip but have an amazing substitute that will be taking my place. Thanks :)

Thank you to everyone who has supported our 3rd grade service learning project. So far, 3rd grade has raised $1,222 in ad/business donations and has sold 259 flash dash t-shirts! I will be sending home more info about the flash dash in the upcoming weeks.

Also, a huge thank you to everyone who donated items for the fishing basket to be raffled off at the carnival. I know it will be such a fun event and hope that each of you can stop by!

Last and most importantly, I want to thank you for all of the support each of you has given our class and school this year! This is such a crazy/busy time in the school year and I feel that we have been asking so much of you lately. I hope the kids realize how lucky they are to have such a great group of classroom parents this year! I know I do!

April 7th

Reading- The next two weeks we will review reading strategies learned throughout the school year to prepare for map testing the week of the 24th.

Math- We are currently working on fractions and will begin learning how to measure to the nearest quarter and half inch next week. Additionally, we are busy reviewing math material from this year to prepare for map testing the week of the 24th. We are continuing our unit on multiplication and  memorizing facts. I am using multiplication sweets to hopefully motivate students to learn their facts. With each set they master, they will earn ice cream scoops. At the end of the year we will have an ice cream party! To help learn facts along the way, students will make flash cards to use here at school and at home. Although the only homework Beulah Ralph officially requires is the reading log, if I notice that your child is struggling with memorizing facts I will suggest they practice for homework as well.  The class has been hard at work in ST math. So far, we are at 82% as a class!

Science- Tuesday, we received an incubator and  eggs! We are eagerly waiting for them to hatch while learning all about the life cycle of chickens!
